The project involves repairing the southernmost corner stone pillar supporting the front porch. The pillar requires replacement due to significant water damage to the base stones, which has caused the structure to crumble and lean, creating a substantial risk to the integrity of both the front porch and the southwestern portion of the home's foundation. The previous homeowner attempted to stabilize the pillar using railroad ties, which unfortunately caused additional damage to the stonework. The repair process includes carefully dismantling the pillar, pouring a new concrete support pad, and rebuilding the pillar using salvaged stones from 1901 Fairmount Avenue. These stones are original to the property and are identical (in kind) to the damaged stones being replaced. They have been stored on-site for several years. We will also repair cracks along the porch and foundation with mortar to prevent additional moister from damaging the stones. The work is being completed by Whitehead Masonry.
